Celebrate Recovery Step Studies
January 30, 2012
Experience freedom from hurts, habits, and hang-ups … we’ve all got them
We’ve been running a step study for men based on Celebrate Recovery for a while now and it’s been going well. We’ve now launched separate men’s and women’s groups. These groups are working through the step studies based on Celebrate Recovery.
The two groups meet at the church at the following times:
- Men – Wednesdays at 7 pm (started Jan 22, open to new members for 6 weeks)
- Women – Sundays at 6 pm (started Jan 18, open to new members for 6 weeks)
What is Celebrate Recovery?
Celebrate Recovery was founded in 1991 by Pastor John Baker of Saddleback Church with the goal of overcoming life’s issues with a twelve-step program based on Christian principles. This recovery program addresses all types of habits, hurts and hang-ups. The purpose is to focus on God’s healing power through fellowship with others and by working the 12 Steps and the 8 Beatitude Principles. Celebrate Recovery is conducted by Christians who have been through 12-step recovery. Although Celebrate Recovery meetings are similar to those of other twelve-step programs, one difference is in their focus on Christianity. The program stresses that there is no other Higher Power except for Jesus, as opposed to groups like Alcoholics Anonymous which encourage members to choose their own concept of a Higher Power. Another difference is that Celebrate Recovery does not require one to conform to a singleness of purpose declaration, a member does not have to qualify oneself as an alcoholic, addict, or gambler—there are no requirements for membership. What is a Step Study?
A Step Study is how we work through our hurts, habits, and hang-ups. We use Celebrate Recovery’s (CR’s) four Participant Guides to direct us on a personal journey through each of the 12 steps and 8 recovery principles. Step Study Groups are gender-specific and led by men or women who have completed a step study. They meet once a week. When the group has completed the first Participant Guide, the group is closed to new people. New groups start periodically as need arises, so let us know if you’re interested in joining a step group. New groups are open to new members until 6 weeks in (ie session 6). The group is then closed.
If you are interested in joining a step study for men or women, please send an email to info@faithhuntsville.ca or talk to anyone on the leadership team.
Midweek Prayer and Bible Study
January 6, 2012

If you need directions to the Wonder Mountain room, enter at the upper doors of the church (closest to West Road) and inquire at the church office. We hope to see you out!
